Heritage Experts Help Navigate the Move to Senior Living

Moving to a senior living community is a big decision, with lots of questions and several moving parts. We understand this can be overwhelming and are here to help seniors and their families navigate this sometimes-daunting process.

Selling the family home, wills, estates, power of attorney, Medicare, Medicaid, and more…

Understandably, most do not have expertise in these areas.

“I’d say 8 out of 10 families who tour The Heritage need support and guidance on these topics,” said Ali Schratt, Director of Sales and Marketing. “That isn’t a surprise. Various aspects of a move like this can be confusing, if not complex, requiring true subject matter experts. We believe part of our responsibility is to offer knowledge and provide access to these resources.”

To address this need, The Heritage Care Center team launched “The Heritage Sage – An Educational Series for Seniors and Caregivers.” The ongoing programming aims to fill these knowledge gaps and make the move to senior living a smoother process.

One of the biggest hurdles that seniors and their families face when considering a move to a senior living community is selling their homes. This can be a cumbersome task, especially for those who have lived in one house for many years. At The Heritage at Green Hills, we are here to provide support, including downsizing counsel and services, as well as introductions to local real estate agents who specialize in selling homes for seniors.

And then there’s the legal stuff.

Wills and estates are important considerations when transitioning to a senior living community. Part of our role at The Heritage is to connect you with legal professionals who specialize in these areas to help ensure that your assets are protected, and your wishes are carried out.

Another important legal aspect to consider is care coordination and establishing power of attorney, which grants a trusted individual the authority to make critical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so. This is especially important when families are dealing with the diminished physical and mental capacity of a loved one, when a secure and compassionate future is the top – and perhaps only – priority.

“Families can rely on us to help ensure all of these legal documents are in place and, because we offer the complete continuum of care, families can have peace of mind knowing that they have access to more support when it is needed right here at The Heritage,” added Schratt.

In addition to legal matters, downsizing possessions can also be a challenging aspect of moving to a senior living community, as is determining which healthcare benefits you do and do not qualify for at each stage of your life care plan.

This is why The Heritage partners with local professionals available to help guide you on these vital matters. We understand that moving to a senior living community can feel all-consuming, but we are here to help every step of the way. From selling your home to establishing power of attorney and managing legal matters, our team is dedicated to providing seniors and their families with the resources and support they need to make a smooth transition to our community.
